BENICIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICTOCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTCLASSIFIED MANAGEMENTDEFINITIONUnder general direction, provides assessment, consultation and/or treatment to children with disabilities who qualify for occupational therapy services. RELATIONSHIP TO STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTProvides support to staff and direct services to include students who have sensory motor issues that impede their learning process.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe tasks listed in this section are representative of duties assigned to this position. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the tasks assigned to this position.•Processes referrals of students for occupational therapy services.•Provides direct occupational therapy to students.•Completes initial educationally-related perceptual/sensory/motor assessments.•Provides clinical and administrative supervision of certified occupational therapy assistants.•Develops treatment plans and goals with appropriate referrals to other agencies when necessary.•Participates in the development of procedures, reporting forms and records to manage the program.•Prepares written reports.•Attends initial IEP to review assessments and attends other IEP meetings as appropriate.•Provides inservices, training, and consultation to special education staff and parents as needed.•Maintains a positive, open communication with staff, schools, parents, and agencies.•Reviews occupational therapy/physical therapy progress reports.•Maintains SELPA therapy rooms/equipment.•Consults with non-public agencies in related areas.•Attends appropriate inservice/staff development meetings.•Capacity to follow guidelines of determination and provisions of educationally necessary occupational therapies.•Ability to understand, interpret, and provide educationally necessary therapies.•Knowledge of and ability to provide occupational therapy assessments.••Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with district office personnel, school district personnel, and outside agencies.•Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and persuasively, both orally and in writing. •Performs related duties as required.•Possession of valid California driver's license.EXPERIENCE•Experience working with children as an occupational therapist with experience working in a public education setting preferred.EDUCATION A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Occupational Therapy.Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association as an occupational therapist.PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTThe Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Employment listed in this section are representative of, but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of Physical Abilities and Other Conditions of Employment which may be required of positions in this class. Some positions may require regular lifting and physical support of children who may weigh more than 50 pounds.Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work inside; work around dirt/dust.
